UMATILLA — One person is dead after a pedestrian versus vehicle collision Wednesday on Highway 730 between Willamette and Columbia avenues, according to the Umatilla Police Department.

Fritz McEachran, 35, was struck by a westbound vehicle driven by Darcy Tesch, 57, around 6:30 p.m., according to a release from the police department. Both the driver and the victim are from Umatilla, according to the department.

McEachran was pronounced dead at the scene, the release stated.

Traffic was reduced to one lane from the time of the collision until about 10:45 p.m., according to an Oregon Department of Transportation news release.

Alcohol or speed does not appear to be a factor in the crash at this time, police said. The area of the highway where the crash occurred is four lanes and is not lit on the roadway.

The crash still is being investigated by Umatilla police. Oregon State Police and the Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office are assisting.
