One in five students at the University of Oregon has experienced some form of sexual assault — according to a new survey. That's about the same rate as 26 other colleges that did the survey.

It’s the first time the University of Oregon has done the ‘Campus Climate Survey on Sexual Assault.’

About 14 percent of students said they’ve experienced non-consensual sexual contact by force, threat of force, or incapacitation.

Incidents were higher among women, with 24 percent reporting non-consensual contact, and about 10 percent reporting non-consensual penetration.

Vice President for Student Life Robin Holmes said over the years the percentages haven’t changed much. “It is disheartening that we haven’t been able to really impact the numbers but it really makes me feel that we have to have even more resolve to find those programs and those services and those approaches that really are going to make a difference," she said.

She said the university has increased the number of prevention training sessions for incoming freshmen.

The university recently overhauled its website to make reporting easier.
