The U.S. Senate has confirmed Michael McShane to serve on the U.S. District Court for Oregon.

Judge McShane was a Circuit Court Judge of Multnomah County and is filling a position that has been vacant for over a year.

He was originally nominated for the seat in 2012, but did not receive confirmation vote by the Senate.

President Obama renominated him on January 4 of this year.

Federal district court judges are nominated by the president and confirmed by the Senate.

They serve lifetime appointments.
