Vancouver may lag behind some Washington cities when it comes to the sale of recreational marijuana.

Though the state will start handing out retail licenses December 1, Vancouver city councilors want a moratorium to block would-be pot shops from applying for land-use permits until June 30, according to The Columbian.

City officials say they want more time to figure out what zoning rules need to be followed for marijuana sales.

In December, the city chose to restrict some medical marijuana collective gardens to light or heavy industrial zones — a move that upset some marijuana advocates as too restrictive.
