The Vancouver City Council voted unanimously Monday to rescind a resolution opposing a proposed Cowlitz tribal casino. The original resolution was passed by the 2007 council. The move ends the city's opposition to the project and city leaders say it will open doors to working with the tribe.

Dave Barnett is a Cowlitz Tribal member and a founder of the casino project.

"This government-to-government relationship will go far beyond what we can anticipate," Barnett said to the council.  "I want to thank you all for having the vision to see the opportunities that exist for both of us as we move forward and begin working together for the betterment of the city and the tribe."

Construction on the Cowlitz Casino near La Center, Washington, is already underway. The project still faces a legal challenge from Clark County and other groups.
