The Klamath Irrigation District is seeking an investigation into whether a county commissioner improperly used his influence to pursue water use during dry conditions this year in Southern Oregon.

The Herald and News reports that the district has called for a state ethics investigation into Commissioner Tom Mallams.

According to the paper, Mallams and other landowners filed to have water shutoffs in the Upper Klamath Basin delayed by the Klamath County Circuit Court.

While the court deliberated the delay, Mallams and the other commissioners issued a proclamation urging the court to take action on the matter.

The court eventually ruled against the delay.

Mallams says he avoided using river water for irrigation this year by tapping a well.
