Wednesday is the deadline to sign up for health care through Cover Oregon. People have until the end of the day to apply for coverage or potentially face a tax penalty.
State officials say applicants will be notified about plans and tax credits they’re eligible for once the state processes their paperwork.
People who qualify for private coverage will have what Cover Oregon calls a “reasonable amount of time” to then choose a plan. Applicants eligible for the Oregon Health Plan will be enrolled automatically.
Ariane Holme is with Cover Oregon. She says community partners or agents are available to help people enroll.
“Given that challenges we feel really good that 240,000 more people have coverage,” she says.
Holme says people can apply electronically or by mailing in an application. She says those who apply after the deadline may be subject to a federal penalty.
The next open enrollment period for private health insurance will begin in November.
