A bridge worker who fell Sunday into the Columbia River from the Lewis and Clark Bridge is still missing, and presumed to have drowned.

The Cowlitz County Sheriff’s office identified him Monday as Charles William “Bill” Wiley, Jr., of Mississippi.

He was 40 years old, and married.  Wiley was working for a contractor based in Pennsylvania.

The sheriff’s office says it’s still not known how or why the worker’s safety equipment did not prevent his fall.  An investigation is proceeding with the Washington Department of Labor and Industries.
