Underwater Camera Films Fish Habitat Off Oregon's Coast

This week, the environmental group Oceana is collecting images from a high-definition video camera in the ocean off the Oregon Coast. As I reported for EarthFix, it's a research expedition with a cause: The group wants to use the footage to make its case closing more seafloor habitat to bottom trawl fishing.

Bandon Residents "Held Hostage In Their Homes" By Mosquitoes

My latest story for EarthFix: A restoration project in Bandon Marsh created new habitat for salmon and shorebirds, but it also created a new breeding ground for mosquitoes. Local residents are asking the U.S. Fish and Wildlife to control the swarms that are keeping them indoors despite beautiful summer weather.

The Port of Vancouver has released copies of the lease agreement Port commissioners approved last week for a controversial oil terminal. The lease does't prevent the terminal from exporting oil overseas.
