Thanks to the AP’s Jeff Barnard for this news on a 9th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals decision on the Five Buttes logging project in Deschutes National Forest.

The court of appeals reversed a lower court ruling and decided in a 2-1 ruling that the old growth logging project is legal under the Northwest Forest Plan, which has habitat protections for spotted owls and salmon built in.

Conservation groups were hoping the 9th Circuit would stop the logging. Not this time.
