I just agreed to go to a meteor shower watch party. The Perseid Meteor Shower will be at its peak tonight and tomorrow, sending up to 80 meteors an hour raining down through the night sky. This shower has been observed every August for the last 2,000 years!
Anyone got a recommendation for where to find some deep, dark night sky?
I doubt my little point-and-shoot camera will do the shower any justice, but I'll take some shots and report back tomorrow. I remember a magical night in central Missouri watching this same shower years ago.
If you're watching tonight, don't forget to make at least one wish. Eighty wishes an hour might be excessive...
