I was in the South for a friend’s wedding and wound up visiting Beaufort, SC., where ancient live oaks drape Spanish moss over the sprawling lawns of antebellum mansions.

This tree’s burly branches stoop so low and reach so far across the street that the city put up a “low clearance” sign to warn incoming vehicles. A 10-foot clearance is pretty low! Some big trucks just have to take a different route.
