According to our poll, there are quite a few ways to get to work – especially if you combine multiple modes of transportation! Here is a list of the many ways our poll respondents get to work (followed by the number of people who take that mode):

Walk (33), bike (103), car (42), motorcycle (1), skateboard (2), canoe (1), bus (16), rail (11), bus and rail (2), bike and rail (2), bike and bus (8), bike and bus and rail (1), vanpool (2), telecommute (1), work at home (2), and, of course, velomobile (1).

Our lone velomobiler cycles 5 miles or less in 10-20 minutes to get to work. He or she (I’m not sure) says:

“It’s the best combination of efficiency, speed and comfort for my taste. It’s as eco-friendly as a bike but much more comfortable to ride and offers protection from the elements, cargo space and aerodynamics.  I often ride with and electric-assist motor.”

Wondering what the canoeist had to say?

It’s an “occasional” waterborne commute of less than 5 miles, the respondent said. And it takes 30-40 minutes.

“It’s quick, easy, and I often see people I know or interesting things on my commute!  Cons - carrying an extra set of clothing or shoes for my end destination.”
