Oregon Senate Votes To End Clean Fuels Program In 2015

Legislators voted against Senate Bill 488, which would have lifted the 2015 sunset on the Oregon Clean Fuels Program.

The program would ultimately cut the carbon intensity of fuel sold in Oregon by 10 percent over 10 years. But with the 2015 sunset in place, the program cannot possibly be fully implemented.

As the Oregon legislative session convenes this week, lawmakers face a long list of bills that take on environmental issues. The list includes proposals for a statewide plastic bag ban, a tax on carbon, a tax break for biodiesel made from used cooking oil, and a buffer zone around food waste composting facilities.
