After Portland Trail Blazers’ Damian Lillard landed a new shoe contract with Adidas, Foot Locker released a commercial called “No Rings” that features the basketball star and other big names in sports history who never won championship rings in their respective sports.
“Look good, play good, right? The last thing is be one of those guys that never won a ring,” Lillard says on the phone, before becoming aware of his company — LaDainian Tomlison, Barry Sanders, Chris Webber and Karl Malone. (Insert foot in mouth here.)
Monday, Adidas re-signed Lillard to a new shoe contract. USA Today reports figures on the deal aren’t available, but the eight-year deal is only smaller than Chicago Bulls point guard Derrick Rose’s 13-year contract of $185 million and Miami Heat’s LeBron James’ $20 million annual contract with Nike.
In his two seasons with the Blazers, Lillard has made a name for himself, leading the team through a strong season (53-28), participating in 2014 All-Star weekend in New Orleans and being named Rookie of the Year in 2013.
