As OPB Opposes Subpoena, Media Lawyer Explains Why Journalists Fight Testifying

Federal prosecutors have taken the unusual step of issuing a subpoena to former OPB reporter John Sepulvado.

They want to compel him to testify in the latest trial for the occupation of Malheur National Wildlife Refuge.

Prosecutors want Sepulvado and OPB to authenticate an interview he did with occupation leader Ryan Bundy early in the takeover, so it can be admitted as evidence.

OPB All Things Considered host Kate Davidson talked with Gregg Leslie, the legal defense director for the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press, a nonprofit based in Washington, D.C., about this development and why journalists object to being called to testify in court cases.
