Class Of 2025: By The Numbers

OPB is following a group of students from the Class of 2025, as they work their way from kindergarten through high school. In 2012, these students started out as kindergarteners at Earl Boyles Elementary School in the David Douglas School district. We’re looking at the Class of 2025 because the state has set a goal of high school completion for all students in that class.

OPB chose students who started at Earl Boyles Elementary in part because its student body reflects Oregon’s changing demographics.  Now, we can compare the students we’re following to students statewide, using statistics provided by the Oregon Department of Education and the Center for Student Success at Portland State University.

On average, students in OPB’s Class of 2025 are less likely to be white than students statewide who started kindergarten in 2012.

OPB’s Class of 2025 is also more linguistically diverse than the state average  - with 40 percent of students speaking languages other than English at home.

More students left Earl Boyles Elementary after kindergarten than is typical for the state, but that’s partly because the David Douglas School District moved some students, due to crowding problems.

Class Of 2025: Enrollment

Class of 2025 cohort enrollment data compared to statewide data.

Some students repeated kindergarten, were promoted to a grade higher than first, or had other non-traditional enrollment patterns, so percentages will not add up to 100 percent. Data from PSU Center For Student Success and Oregon Department of Education.
