During the armed occupation of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, Harney County Sheriff Dave Ward was a leading local voice against the occupiers.

Now Ward is up for election. His opponent, Alan Johnson, is a retired Oregon State Police Trooper.

All Things Considered host Kate Davidson talked to OPB Central Oregon reporter Amanda Peacher about the race.
