Portland's City Auditor LaVonne Griffin-Valade says voters will decide in a May of 2014 election whether Portland should fluoridate the water supply.
In a news release Thursday, Griffin-Valade said more than 33,000 signatures had been validated.
The requirement was 19,585, the release said.
May 2014 was selected because city code specifies that a referendum be placed on the ballot at the next biennial primary or general election.
However, the Council could choose to have a special election if they find it is in the public interest to find a "prompt resolution," the release explained.
