A group of neighbors, tribal members, small business owners and people of faith, gathered outside a Fairview school Monday to speak out against plans for a local casino.

"Measure 82 would amend the Oregon constitution to allow non-tribal casinos and require those casinos to give a percentage of their revenue to the state lottery. Measure 83 would authorize such a casino in Multnomah County, at Wood Village."
Measure backers have released plans to renovate the old Multnomah Greyhound Park with 100 card tables and 2,200 slot machines. But some locals, like Francisco Holdman, are worried a casino would create a lot of traffic and extra work for police.
Holdman said, "Drug use, property crimes, wherever casinos are there's going to be an increase in crime."
The Canadian company, Clairvest Group, is backing the two ballot measures and the casino. At a recent promotion, CEO Jeff Parr said the complex would be "family-friendly" and employ about 2,000 people.
