The Oregon legislature voted on spending plans for education this week. The Senate unanimously passed a plan for funding K-12 schools at a level of $5.7 billion.
Many complained that’s too small. But Democratic Senator Chris Edwards nicely summed up the feeling in the room.
Chris Edwards: “You know what? This recession sucks. All these decisions suck. And this budget sucks. But we don’t have a choice.”
Environmentalists might have reason to think a federal spending plan sucks, because one version removes grey wolves from the Endangered Species List. And one Oregon political party has to fight to merely keep its name.
