As the year draws toward a close, Governor-elect — and Doctor — John Kitzhaber delivered a grim diagnosis of prospects for Oregon, saying the state is in a “death spiral.” In a speech to the Oregon Business Summit, Kitzhaber also showed some optimism.
John Kitzhaber: “For better or for worse the Great Recession has leveled the house of Oregon to its foundations and we have the opportunity to rebuild it for the 21st century and this is an opportunity that we literally cannot afford to miss.”
Across the Columbia, Washington Gov. Chris Gregoire announced a number of tough budget reductions. And in the other Washington, our Congressional delegation presents a united front against the compromise tax package that will go to the President today.
