The Republican National Convention is over, and Mitt Romney has secured the nomination of his party for president.

During Tuesday’s roll call, Oregon Republican Party chairman Allen Alley said something that caught the attention of people on both coasts.

“I never thought I’d say this, but we’re gonna be the New Jersey of the West.”

That was a tip of the cap to New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, who ginned up the party faithful with a rousing keynote address that evening.

Our fair state was also on the mind of Republican strategist Karl Rove, who said Oregon might be a state to target in the future.

Friday mornings, we talk politics.  Jeff Mapes is the senior political reporter for The Oregonian, and he joins us from Tampa, where he covered the convention.  OPB Political Analyst Bill Lunch is away, so we’re honored to welcome Paul Gronke, who teaches Political Science at Reed College.
