Portland’s mayoral candidates made their case to voters Tuesday on how they would manage everything from environmental issues to the Portland Police bureau.

Candidates Jefferson Smith and Charlie Hales appeared on OPB’s Think Out Loud. Host David Miller moderated the debate.

One of the issues the candidates differed on was fees on new development, called Systems Development Charges. Smith responded first before Miller tossed the question to Hales.

The candidates also talked about how they would handle the Portland police bureau. The Department of Justice recently found that the bureau has used excessive force on mentally ill people.

Here’s what Smith had to say.

 And here’s Hales’ response.

That was Portland Mayoral Candidate Charlie Hales.

We also heard from candidate Jefferson Smith. Think Out Loud’s David Miller moderated.
