Governor Kitzhaber and both Oregon U.S. senators received a briefing Saturday in Glendale on the wildfires burning in Southern Oregon. Local, state, and federal agencies informed community members and state legislators on the status of the Douglas Complex Fires.
Governor Kitzhaber earlier declared a state of emergency and is mobilizing state and federal resources to combat the wildfires. He says the fires in southern Oregon are a high priority for the state and the federal government.
He explained, “We are fully deploying all of the resources we have at our disposal: state, federal, and private aviation assets. Its cost, close to $18 - 19 million.”
More than 2,000 firefighters from around the country are working on the Douglas Complex fires. The blazes have scorched about 33,000 acres so far.
