Each week the Monday Mix showcases three brand new songs from the opbmusic broadcast. This week we highlight a slow-danceable song from a Portland R&B artist, one of the midwest’s most promising indie acts, and a rocking new track from an alt-country legend.
Shy Girls - Trivial Motion
Shy Girls is the stage name of Portland-based R&B artist Dan Vidmar. His first full length album Salt drops January 20, a little over a year after the release of his acclaimed mixtape, 4wz. “Trivial Motion” is the one of the record’s first singles. Vidmar describes Salt as being about his “struggle to come to terms with absurd constructs and this song is definitely an example of that.”
Horse Thief - Another Youth
Oklahoma band Horse Thief recently released this video for “Another Youth,” a track from their upcoming album Trials and Truths. Frontman Cameron Neal has said the album is inspired by being in a “young band, figuring out how to make things work and to have a purpose.” The band, alongside contemporaries like BRONCHO, and scene progenitors The Flaming Lips, have continued to define what could be considered the Oklahoma City sound. Watch out for Horse Thief’s upcoming opbmusic studio session.
Ryan Adams - Do You Still Love Me?
“Do You Love Me?” is the first single from Ryan Adams’ upcoming album Prisoner. Adams closes the door on his Taylor Swift cover era with the release of an unashamed power ballad. The track evokes a multitude of 80s influences, with sprawling organ and “Eye Of The Tiger” guitar stabs.
