It’s been seven years since sprawling Canadian supergroup Broken Social Scene has released an album. What brought them back together, according to founding member Kevin Drew, were the terror attacks in Paris in 2015, along with a sense that the world needed a dose of the clear-eyed optimism the band is best known for.
“It just sort of made us want to go out there and play. Because I think we’ve always been a band that’s been a celebration.”
The new record, “Hug of Thunder,” came out in July. It features all 15 members of the collective.
