Freshly returned from their latest European tour and prepping for two nights at the Doug Fir later this week, Sallie Ford & the Sound Outside have abruptly announced their breakup. The beloved Portland quartet took to Facebook this afternoon:
“Hey, everybody. There will be changes for us in 2014. Sallie Ford & The Sound outside have decided to break up and head their separate ways. It is a mutual decision and there are no hard feelings or ill will between any of us. We still love and support each other in whatever we do. You can expect to see more from Sallie in 2014, as she’s been writing for a new record. She is keeping her name in a new project and starting an all-girl band with some really talented local ladies, us guys are excited to see them churn out the hits, so keep your ears peeled.”
One of the more stable local lineups over the past few years, the shakeup comes as something of a shock. This year’s Untamed Beast, the second full-length record from the band, was widely well-received and has been part of our airwaves all year. Ironically, the official release of their latest recording, the Summer EP, comes on the same day they announce their departure.
Sallie Ford & the Sound Outside still have two previously-scheduled hometown shows later this week, Friday and Saturday nights at the Doug Fir. If somehow you’ve never seen them (and you should), this will be your final chance for the foreseeable future. Best of luck to Sallie, Jeff, Ford and Tyler in their future endeavors.
