Deer Tick in-studio, 9-18-09.

Our session with Deer Tick was recorded right between a series of shows for the McMenamins Great NW Music Tour, and Music Fest NW.  Nursing a sore throat from the previous night’s show, frontman John McCauley III played guitar and harmonica on the first 3 songs, while Ian O’Neill and Andrew Tobiasson sang lead — including a cover of Chuck Berry’s “Maybelline.” Then McCauley sang the final song, “Smith Hill,” one of our favorites from the band’s impressive summer release Born on Flag Day.

Recording engineer: Steven Kray, with assistance from Bill Ward.
