Part of Series:

Foreign Born was originally a 2-man band formed by singer Matt Popieluch and guitarist Lewis Pesacov, roommates at San Francisco State University, in 2003. Now based in LA, the band has grown in numbers to 6. Its fuller sound and percussive style made last year’s release, Person to Person, one of the best listens of 2009, and just a bit exotic. Songs like “Early Warnings” and “It Grew On You” feature chugging downbeats and stinging guitar lines that seem drawn from styles including the Chimurenga music of Thomas Mapfumo in Zimbabwe, to the Tuareg nomads of the Malian desert.

We hosted Foreign Born in our studios for a performance near the end of their winter tour — as it happened, they would be in Vancouver while the Winter Games were going on, and that prompted them to finish their session with their song of that name.

Recorded 2-26-10 by Steven Kray with assistance from Bill Ward.
