One of our favorite records this year was Obadiah, the new solo release from Frazey Ford — former lead singer of the folk group The Be Good Tanyas. Her new record is a soulful slow burner, and as she says, something of a return to her roots. Songs draw on her love of both soul and country music, with lyrics about reconciling her upbringing and raising a child of her own.

Look to the end of the audio portion for her cover of “The Happy Song” (Otis Redding).

Frazey Ford at OPB, 12-6-10. Recorded by Steven Kray with assistance from Bill Ward. Video production by Jarratt Taylor with Anthony DelCalzo. Photos by Inger Klekacz. (See the photo set here).
