Mount Moriah: Live at OPB

References to the towns and back roads of North Carolina dot the songs of Mount Moriah‘s new record, How to Dance. Calvander is an unincorporated town Northwest of Chapel Hill, where the subject of “Calvander” is searching “for some kind.. any kind of light.” That sense of looking for beauty or meaning recurs in many of the album’s songs. Frontwoman Heather McEntyre, guitarist Jenks Miller, and bassist Casey Toll come from disparate musical backgrounds (punk, metal, jazz), but together make country-leaning music. McEntyre sounds like a young Dolly Parton, while Miller gives a big helping of southern-rock guitar. Mount Moriah played three songs from their new record in the studio for opbmusic.

The band is back in Oregon to play Pickathon this summer, with sets on Saturday and Sunday, August 6-7.
