For Portland band Swahili, music is a pathway to having a sacred and transcendent experience. In our interview, the band talks about how their love of the psychedelic, ancient, and minimalism brought them together. Initially coming from an experimental direction, their new record Amoureux uses more recognizable pop forms and dance beats, but still hews to long songs that entice you to into a different mind space. Watch Van Pham, Xua Vineyard, John Griffin, Troy Micheau, and Ryan Schofield perform the song “Hindsight,” and an interview where the group talks more about their place in Portland’s music scene, and the experience they want to create onstage. Swahili’s record release show is February 11th at Mississippi Studios.
Our final Stagepass concert is coming up Friday February 6th at Mississippi Studios, with Deep Sea Diver, The Delines, and Holiday Friends. Ticket info and all of our Stagepass videos are here.
