Willy Vlautin is a man who wears many hats well. Whether fronting the critically-acclaimed Richmond Fontaine or writing starkly beautiful novels like his debut Motel Life or this year’s The Free, his emotionally resonant style takes center stage.

With The Delines, though, Vlautin steps just out of the spotlight. Singer Amy Boone (The Damnations) steps in as the lead vocalist, bringing a fresh voice to Vlautin’s poignant lyrics. Backed by Richmond Fontaine drummer Sean Oldham, Tucker Jackson on pedal steel, Freddy Trujillo on bass, and Jenny Conlee (The Decemberists and Black Prairie) or Cory Gray on keys, The Delines conjure dusty barrooms in the wee hours of the morning with their rich-yet-uncluttered songs.

The band stopped by OPB studios in June to play a set of songs of off their debut album, Colfax, and sit down for an interview.
