The Mynabirds Live at OPB

For her new record, Lovers Know, The Mynabirds’ Laura Burhenn teamed up with Los Angeleles-via-New Zealand producer Bradley Hanan Carter. (Carter’s own band, NO, had a well-received record and tour in 2014, pairing cool textures and Carter’s distinctive baritone voice. The group later changed their name to Black English [“NO” is hard to google] and re-released the record, but reverted to the old name this year.) Carter’s fingerprints (and voice) are all over Burhenn’s new songs, and her touring band is now comprised of members of NO as well — along with Carter on bass, Reese Richardson plays guitar, with drummer Brandon Phillips. Their hook-filled single “Wildfire” leads the session, and Burhenn takes a turn at the piano on “Velveteen.”
