Wye Oak has been generating new buzz since their performances at SXSW last month, and as they tour behind their new release Civilian. The record presents some subtle changes in the duo’s sound, as their penchant for loud, distorted breaks has been pulled back (somewhat) in favor of a richer sonic landscape, including more use of electronics and effects by drummer/keyboard player Andy Stack. He and singer/guitarist Jenn Wasner talk about their evolving sound, and play five of their new songs. Don’t miss Wasner’s solo performance of “Doubt.” It was the first time she’s played the song since making the record.

Recorded at OPB, 3-29-11. Recording engineer: Steven Kray, with technical assistance from Bill Ward. Video: Jarratt Taylor, Anthony DelCalzo, Jeremy Petersen and Matthew Casebeer.
