Portland Gay Men's Chorus on ART BEAT, Airs May 31

OPB | May 22, 2012 8:50 a.m. | Updated: Dec. 5, 2013 11:15 a.m.

The Portland Gay Men’s Chorus has performed all over the world acting as musical ambassadors while promoting diversity, understanding and tolerance. But it hasn’t always been easy. OREGON ART BEAT follows the choir to Pendleton where they perform a public outreach concert and share their experiences, struggles and joys through music. Tune in to OPB TV on Thursday, May 31 at 8pm.

What do you get when artists from different disciplines get together to plan and create theme-based art? It’s called collaborative art. ART BEAT reveals what happened when the Pacific Northwest Woodturners Guild invited metal and fabric artists to a three-day celebration of collaboration on a property in Gresham.

Cathleen Rehfeld paints a painting every day and posts it on her blog. It’s a project she began in 2007 which disciplines her to start and finish a painting in a day. She often visits the Farmer’s Market in Hood River for inspiration, picking a bunch of beets, flowers or peas to create her real-life, still-life works of art. OREGON ART BEAT watches as she paints a six-inch-by-six-inch painting of beets that she posts on her blog … where it becomes another work in her instant gallery.
