ART BEAT Bids Farewell to Jeff Douglas, Airs Sept 29

OPB | Sept. 18, 2011 11 p.m. | Updated: Dec. 5, 2013 11:15 a.m.

You may know his voice as narrator of many of the television productions at OPB, or from his nine years as a reporter on the popular OREGON FIELD GUIDE series, or as host of OREGON ART BEAT, the award-winning local program about arts and culture that he created over 12 years ago. On Thursday, September 29 at 8pm, Jeff Douglas will host his final OREGON ART BEAT show. The Portland broadcasting icon is retiring from OPB after a long and distinguished career.

In his final show, Jeff will share some of his favorite ART BEAT stories and talk about his career in broadcasting. Colleagues will reveal some interesting and amusing behind-the-scenes stories about Jeff and present some heart-felt testimonials. He will also introduce the new ART BEAT hosts who will guide the show when season 13 premieres at 8pm on Thursday, October 6.

Jeff came to OPB from KGW-TV news where spent 12 years as executive producer, assignment editor and producer. As one of two founders of KINK radio, Douglas served as program director for four years before taking over as general manager.

Jeff has produced several award-winning documentaries for OPB, including “The Silent Invasion,” which won a prestigious DuPont-Columbia Award, “Hanford: Environmental Fallout,” “Oregon’s Memorable Century,” as well as numerous award-winning episodes for OREGON ART BEAT and OREGON FIELD GUIDE.
