To celebrate the launch of broadcasting from its new studio at Oregon Public Broadcasting, KMHD Jazz Radio (89.1-FM) has invited supporters and members of the jazz community for a ceremonial “spin of the first platter” and special live performances by renowned vocalist Shirley Nanette and trumpeter, composer and hip-hop producer Farnell Newton.

This August 10th noon-time event kicks off the partnership between Mt. Hood Community College and OPB for the management and operations of KMHD.

“We’re excited about this partnership,” said Lynne Clendenin, OPB vice president of Radio Programming. “Combining KMHD’s expertise and passion for jazz with the resources of a leading public broadcasting network means we can bring the magic of this uniquely American art form to even more people.”

“This partnership ensures jazz programming will continue to be enjoyed throughout greater Portland for years to come,” said OPB President and CEO Steve Bass. “We salute the staff, the volunteers and supporters who, for 25 years, have made KMHD everything it is today. And we are committed to working with listeners, the jazz community and Mt. Hood Community College to enhance KMHD’s on-air programming and community involvement.”
