OPB & BBC Team Up to Bring Global Debate Program to Portland

OPB | March 12, 2007 3:35 a.m. | Updated: Dec. 5, 2013 11:14 a.m.

Oregon Public Broadcasting and BBC World Service are teaming up to stage live broadcasts of its flagship interactive radio and online program “World, Have Your Say” from Portland. On Thursday 22 March and Friday 23 March, the BBC’s presenter Ros Atkins will join OPB host April Baer to hold special debates from Portland’s landmark Baghdad Theatre and from the OPB’s studios.

“World, Have Your Say” invites OPB radio listeners and online users to share their views with a worldwide audience and ask questions on key issues in the news. The co-production with OPB is part of a series of the BBC’s outside broadcasts from the U.S. and will be preceded by a joint program with WOSU in Columbus, Ohio.

“Some of the most exhilarating editions of ‘World, Have Your Say’ have been broadcast from America,” said program host Ros Atkins. “I think back to taking calls from Baghdad and Afghanistan while at WCPN in Cleveland, or when Detroiters at WDET sparked a worldwide debate about affirmative action, and get so excited about what ‘World, Have Your Say’ can do. It also has been fantastic to have listeners in Oregon contributing to the program since OPB began airing the show in January. So I can’t wait for this trip and to hear what people in Oregon want to talk to the world about.”

“World, Have Your Say” can be heard live weekdays from 10 to 11am on the stations of OPB Radio.
