How Will This Region’s Future Unfold?
To define values and beliefs in the Pacific Northwest, OPB supports the “500,000 Voices” survey and study focused on Southwest Washington residents. The survey intends to shape the future of the region by empowering local voices and identifying priorities: the economy; education; public safety; the environment; poverty; health; the arts; and charitable giving.
“This opportunity to explore public opinion in such depth builds on three decades of similar work that has been done in Oregon,” said Morgan Holm, senior vice-president and Chief Content Officer at OPB. “The results are more meaningful and long-lasting than typical opinion polls, and will become a valuable community resource.”
Responses will be compiled and presented in a report due fall 2014. Similar to the Oregon Values and Beliefs Study, local leaders and policy makers will be able to compare and contrast regional opinions to make more informed decisions. It will also enhance OPB’s coverage north of the Columbia.
This comprehensive study has received substantial support from local nonprofits and businesses: AHA!; DHM Research; The Columbian; Community Foundation for Southwest Washington; Clark College; Washington State University Vancouver; United Way of the Columbia-Willamette; and Northwest Health Foundation.
OPB invites residents of Clark, Cowlitz and Skamania counties to take the survey: www.500kvoices.org. Participants can elect to enter a prize raffle upon completion.
