- Allan deLay played the musical saw, was an Olympian at age 89, and was an Oregonian news photographer for decades. He took Art Beat to the very spot in which he shot his world-famous photographs of the Vanport Flood.

- He came to Oregon in the 1940's to teach art. And Michele "Mike" Russo inspired generations of younger Northwest artists. He continued to paint well into his 90's. Mike Russo’s influence is still felt in the Portland art community.
