Linus Pauling Statue
It took an outsider to bring about a tribute to an Oregon legend. When Julian Voss Andreae moved from Germany to Portland, he was surprised to find no memorial to Portland native and Nobel Prize winner Linus Pauling. The sculptor used his background in physics to design a memorial structure to place outside Pauling's childhood home in Southeast Portland.

Willamette Kids Arts Festival
Robin Fromherz of Willamette University wanted to see that every kid got a chance to be exposed to the arts. She founded a program that brings Salem fourth graders to the college for a week in the summer to learn about art and music. Performers including Portland Taiko and Tears of Joy puppet theater agreed to help.

Elements Glass Foundry and Gallery
The owners of Portland's Elements Glass foundry and gallery were boyhood buddies in St. Louis. They all ended up in Portland where they demonstrate their primitive method for making glass art. Sculptor Mike Leckie also pays a visit to their foundry and has them pour some striking glass faces.
