Honky-tonk Band The Buckles

Here’s your chance to hear the classics of honky-tonk, performed by Portland’s staunchest country traditionalists. Hard-core Bakersfield twang right out of the playbooks of Buck Owens and Merle Haggard, unaffected by the homogenized, country-pop of today. The Liverpool influence becomes apparent later in the evening as "The Buckles" serve up a highly listenable and eminently danceable set guaranteed to please.

Burning Man Festival

A profile of David Butts, sculptor of the mirrored steel “sunflower” that debuted at the 2006 Burning Man arts festival. Burning Man is an annual art festival and temporary community based on radical self expression and self-reliance in the Black Rock Desert of Nevada.

Painter Margret Short

Dutch paintings have been a source of inspiration for Margret Short; specifically, Rembrandt and Willem Kalf. She feels that these painting holds the most mysterious and dramatic effects of light and shadow. Technique and materials in painting are as important as the result. Margret prefers using materials set down by the masters and proved by the test of time. Fine lead-primed linens, pure pigments, and resin/oil medium allows the paint to take on a certain glowing quality. Margret's style, though deeply rooted in the traditions of the Renaissance, has a fresh and gestural quality that transcends time and space.
