Landscape artist Alice Wanke Stephens was born in Portland and graduated from Stanford University. Her mission is to promote awareness of the beauty that surrounds us, and to inspire conservation of the natural world. She works on stretched linen or Masonite with acrylic paint and palette knives. Her paintings are in collections all over the United States.

Teenage Violinist Alex Hargreaves
In memory of slain journalist Daniel Pearl, violin maker Jonathan Cooper created a special instrument to be awarded to promising violinists. Last year, internationally famous fiddler Marc O'Connor chose Alex Hargreaves of Corvallis to get to play the special instrument. Still a teenager, Alex is the youngest musician to win the award.
