Oregon Music Project
690
Aurora was settle by William Keil who believed that Christian communal living offered a positive model for living. These pioneers built their own homes, shops and mills. Good music, delicious food and friendliness brought them happiness unmatched elsewhere in the West of that day. The Aurora colony had a very strong musical tradition and a variety of opportunities for people to practice and perform. The Aurora Band was notorious around the Northwest and played many important and highly paid gigs. The community had two bands—the Pioneer Band, the Junior Brass Band, a variety of male chamber music ensembles, and at least three choirs. Now tucked away in an old basement, music thought long gone comes to life in historical Aurora, Oregon. Meet the intrepid musicians who bring the music into the 21st century. Hear the work of the Oregon Music Project.
