Sculptor Don MacLane
698
Don MacLane holds BA and MFA degrees in Sculpture from Antioch College and the University of Oregon. Over time, he acquired skills that he uses in his sculpture. He trained as a cabinetmaker making custom hardwood furniture, learned blacksmithing and reconstructed timber frame barns. For years his day job was as a steel fabricator working on structural steel, cranes, machinery and pressure vessels. He went back to school and eventually received a degree in mechanical engineering. The technical training helps him understand the behavior of his kinetic sculpture and the experimental musical instruments that he builds. He took advantage of an early retirement offer and at last is able to work full time on sculpture.

Musician Tom Grant
418
Tom Grant, master instrumentalist, talented singer and natural entertainer walks the line between jazz tradition and modern pop. This soft-spoken Oregon native's inspired songwriting produces propulsive R&B grooves, infectious melodic hooks, and stylish ballads with equal ease. He plays jazz piano with the harmonic sophistication and deep sense of swing that comes from more than three decades on the bandstand. At the same time, his recordings have consistently landed at the top of the Smooth Jazz charts, a genre of music Tom helped pioneer in the mid-80s.
