The Poetry Society of America launched Poetry in Motion in 1992. The first poems appeared in the New York city subway. Now ten million commuters a day in cities all across the country can read poetry while riding mass transit. Portland's TriMet system participates in this program, giving poetry by local writers unrivaled visibility.
