Portland Sacred Harp isn't a harp at all, it's a singing group. Dating to the early 1800s, shape note singing is a uniquely American musical tradition that brings communities together through four-part harmonies, with songs that can be boisterous or reverent. Locally, Portland Sacred Harp preserves this cultural heritage through its regular “singings” and Sacred Harp conventions.
