- Christmas Valley is home to some of the best preserved fossils in the world. At Fossil Lake, paleontologist Dr. Jim Martin from the South Dakota School of Mines works with a team of students and volunteers to excavate the remains of a native horse, a species that died out thousands of years ago. The remarkable geology and animal remains provide a record of life in the valley over the past 600,000 years.

- Professor Greta Binford is an arachnologist who collects, breeds and milks the venom from the world's most dangerous spiders. Nicknamed "Spider Woman," Binford studies spider venom to help establish evolutionary links between spider species. Follow her and a group of students as they search the woods for calie leptoneta, a Northwest species that has been missing for decades.
